Work protection, also known as occupational safety and health (OSH), represents the set of measures and activities aimed at ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for all employees. The main goal is to prevent work accidents and occupational diseases, thus protecting the physical and mental integrity of workers.
1. Employers' obligations in the field of work protection
- Occupational risk assessment: Employers must identify and assess the risks to which workers are exposed, implementing appropriate preventive measures to eliminate or reduce them.
- Employee training and information: It is essential that employees are trained and informed about the specific risks of the workplace and the necessary prevention and protection measures.
- Providing protective equipment: Employers must provide appropriate personal protective equipment and ensure that it is used correctly by workers.
- Monitoring employee health: Organizing periodic medical check-ups to assess the health status of employees in relation to the occupational risks to which they are exposed.
- Developing own OSH instructions: Creating and updating specific occupational safety and health instructions, adapted to the activities carried out within the organization.
2. Employees' rights and obligations in the field of work protection
- Compliance with OSH instructions: Employees have the obligation to comply with the occupational safety and health instructions and procedures established by the employer.
- Correct use of protective equipment: Proper use of personal protective equipment provided by the employer is essential for preventing accidents.
- Participation in training: Employees must participate in the training sessions organized by the employer in the field of OSH.
- Reporting hazards: Immediately informing the employer about any situation that poses a danger to occupational safety and health.
3. The role of the Labor Inspection in work protection
- Control and supervision: The Labor Inspection controls the application of the provisions regarding occupational safety and health and coordinates the activities of preventing occupational risks.
- Investigation of work accidents: The institution investigates work events, determines the causes and proposes measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
- Authorization and approval: The Labor Inspection authorizes the operation of natural and legal persons from the point of view of OSH and issues approvals according to the competences established by law.
- Information and training: The institution provides information and methodological guidance for improving occupational safety and health activities.
Compliance with work protection norms is essential to ensure a safe and healthy working environment, contributing to the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases.
